For many years, guys dealing with premature ejaculation thought they had one or two options to explore. Typically, this involved some sort of mail order numbing cream or special condoms they could pick up at the drug store. In fact, there are a number of effective treatment options but many guys simply don’t know about them. Premature ejaculation is incredibly common but still isn’t talked about when people discuss new medical breakthroughs. We’ve gathered some of the more innovative ways men are dealing with the problem and how they might work for you.
Nutritional Coaching
One reason many experts think premature ejaculation is on the rise is due to poor overall health. Instead of focusing directly on the penis, one treatment approach is to fix a man’s health starting with the most basic components – food. Nutritionists have found that many people – both men and women – struggling with sexual performance problems simply aren’t fuelling their body properly. Cutting back on meat and dairy and loading up on fruit, vegetables and whole grains can transform the way you feel and the way you move. For some, a simple tweak in how they eat has a domino effect in improving their sexual performance.
Sex Therapy
Could the cure for premature ejaculation be more sex? That’s what some experts believe could be the most effective treatment options for some men. Sex therapy coupled with traditional counselling is designed to help couples work together to find an effective treatment. First, the traditional counselling addresses a variety of issues in the relationship and with the male partner alone. These can help to unearth the root cause of the problem – assuming it’s mental or emotional – as well as developing new coping techniques. The sex therapy portion of this treatment involves both partners and deals directly with how to best maintain an emotional and sexual bond throughout the process. Controlled masturbation, mutual masturbation and extended foreplay techniques are all involved. This option works best for couples who want to address the issue once and for all while still maintaining a positive and healthy sex life.
Pharmaceutical Options
Currently, there are no market ready pharmaceutical options designed specifically for premature or early ejaculation. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some pharmaceutical options. Doctors working with patients who have had no luck with other treatment options may prescribe anti-depressants or drugs designed to treat other types of erectile dysfunction as a way to help delay orgasm. These drugs work to promote blood flow to the penis which can help with stamina. Anti-depressants are well known for their most common side effect of delayed ejaculation, making them a good option for some men dealing with early ejaculation. These can have fairly serious side effects, however, and should be considered carefully before beginning.
Botox
Perhaps the newest treatment option to emerge is the use of Botox to treat premature ejaculation. Although Botox is primarily known for its cosmetic applications, it has been used successfully to treat a number of different conditions, including chronic migraine and joint pain. Testing continues to determine the efficacy of using Botox in the long term but initial clinical results are promising. In May 2014, the NHS in England announced plans for a large scale study with couples throughout London and the popularity of the program – and the treatment – continues to grow.
The options for treating early ejaculation continue to multiply with the advancement of medical technology and a better understanding of human sexuality. Although no treatment provides an instant cure, they do offer a way for men to address the issue head on and with the support and help of their partner. A more open approach to sexual health as well as an open mind regarding new treatments can easily lead to options that offer short term relief while working in the background to provide true, long lasting treatment of the condition once and for all.
